February 16, the DPRK celebrates the birthday of Kim Jong Il (born February 16, 1942.)

We congratulate the Korean people on this significant date. Kim Jong Il passed a serious school of becoming a political leader under the leadership of the Great Leader comrade Kim Il Sung. June 19, 1964 he began working in the apparatus of the CC of the WPK, having passed all the steps of work in the party apparatus, while finishing the Academy of the General Staff. In September 1973 at the age of 31, he was elected Secretary of the WPK Central Committee, a year later - a member of the Political Committee (Politburo) of the WPK Central Committee and Kim II Sung's successor. October 8, 1997 after the death of the Great Leader, he is elected to the post of WPK General Secretary. December 24, 1991 he was appointed to the post of Supreme Commander of the KPA. April 9, 1993 Comrade Kim Jong Il was elected chairman of the DPRK GKO. April 20, 1992 he was awarded the title of Marshal of the DPRK.

Comrade Kim Jong-il’s career advancement corresponded to his colossal political, military, and economic activities. There is not a single issue of domestic and foreign policy that Kim Jong Il would not deal with. Together with the development of heavy industry, great attention was paid to the development of light industry, which provided the population with essential household goods. The colossal construction of power stations by Komsomol members carried out Lenin electrification of the national economy, which ensured a powerful increase in labor productivity in enterprises. At the suggestion and under the direction of Kim Jong-il, the restructuring of agricultural areas was carried out, which made it possible to use mechanization in the processing of farmland and several times to increase the yields of the main agricultural crop of the DPRK - rice. They organized the creation of fish farms, which provided the population with an additional high-quality food product - fish. Under Kim Jong Il, the country was covered with gardening farms, thus the population was provided with its own fruits. Massive grandiose housing construction in cities and villages. Compulsory free 12-year education and health care. Even the remote villages of the country have become connected by beautiful asphalt roads. A lot of attention was paid to resolving the issue of the reunification of the Korean nation, which had been torn apart by the Americans in 1945.

With the grandeur of all of the above, perhaps the most important merit of Kim Jong Il is the development under his leadership of the Korean domestic intercontinental ballistic missile, the launch of artificial earth satellites. Thus, the DPRK became one of the world's nuclear powers. Whether or not the United States wants to admit this fact, but now the United States does not dare to command on the world stage in northeast Asia and threaten the DPRK with a preemptive nuclear strike.

We wish the wonderful socialist country of the DPRK new victories in overcoming the difficulties of building socialism on the path to creating a prosperous socialist power.

Perspectives for Venezuela

Without the use of force. Venezuela tunes into a long power struggle

Confronting the government and the opposition can take weeks or months

CARACAS, February 15th. / TASS /. The situation in Venezuela seemed to evolve rapidly when opposition leader Juan Guaydo announced on January 23 that he assumed the powers of the president of the country, and the United States immediately recognized him in that capacity. However, over the past three weeks, street fighting did not start in Caracas, as was the case in 2017, the Colombian army did not invade the country, American planes did not fly overhead. The Bolivarian Republic lives a normal life and sets itself up for a long struggle between the government and the opposition, which can last for weeks or even months.

Calm atmosphere

The two main political groups behave as if they do not notice the opponents. On February 10, President Nicolas Maduro opened the largest military exercises in the history of the country, spoke on February 11 at an event promoting tourism in Venezuela, and on February 12 on Youth Day he rewarded teenagers in Bolivar Square in the center of Caracas on achievements in school and sports, 50 meters from the stronghold opposition - the parliament building.

ON THIS TOPIC

Deputy Chairman of the ruling party of Venezuela: the fate of Latin America is decided for the next 100 years

The National Assembly, chaired by Juan Guaydo, whose appointment to this post was canceled by the Supreme Court, also continues its work. There are weekly meetings at which plans are approved for the organization of the transition period, managers are appointed to the state oil company PDVSA and its subsidiary in the United States Citgo Petroleum. Security is provided by the National Guard. Guaydo attends various social events in Caracas, where he calls to support the delivery of humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

Even major opposition rallies on February 2 and 12 were completely calm. The government, unlike the practice of previous years, this time is not trying to control the actions of the protesters with the help of the army or the National Guard. Thousands of crowds gathered in the morning on the Avenue of Francisco de Miranda, listened to the speech of Guaydo and went home for dinner. Break through the city center to government buildings and build tent cities, despite the warm weather in Caracas, where even at night the temperature does not fall below 15 degrees Celsius, no one tried.

A peaceful atmosphere reigns in Bolivar Square, where public government events are usually held. There continues the collection of signatures against possible American intervention in the affairs of Venezuela. Began with the mass media support from the speech of the president himself, he is now in a calm mode.

"Life in Caracas is an art"

Talking about normal life in Caracas, however, can only be conditional. Russians living in the city share tips: not to walk the streets in the evening (in some areas the evening is considered to be around 4:00 pm), not to dress brightly, not to use a telephone on the street. In the subway of Caracas, you rarely see people buried in a cell phone, and neighboring passengers can advise such a passenger to quickly hide the phone.

Periodically in the city limit the flow of electricity. Then the traffic lights, elevators stop working, the trains stop walking along some metro lines. On February 8, the lights were turned off at the Miraflores presidential residence right during the Maduro press conference for foreign media. Power supply was immediately restored from backup power sources.

Maduro vs. Guaydo. What happens in Venezuela?

Residents of the city are accustomed to such outages. "Life in Caracas is an art", - one of them shares his impressions.

It is difficult to get cash in the country - there are restrictions on withdrawing money at an ATM. The minimum wage is about ten dollars, although the exact figure depends on the rate at which the calculation is conducted. A kilogram of meat in a store may cost about three dollars in terms of bolivars. Exchanging dollars and euros for bolivars at the black market rate is offered a stone’s throw from Bolivar Square.

Distribution of food packages is organized at many enterprises. As the Deputy Chairman of the Venezuelan Unified Socialist Party, created by Hugo Chavez, said in an interview with TASS, the country's government sends about $ 120 million to social assistance every month.

However, in Venezuela, there are people who can afford to buy meat in stores. The eastern districts of the city are quite prosperous, there are cozy quiet streets, and the houses are fenced with two-meter walls. A completely different picture in the slum "barrios" in the west of the city, where small houses are molded on the slopes of the mountains.

Government supporters are convinced that the difficult economic situation is the result of US sanctions, while opposition supporters impose responsibility on the government, accusing it of corruption and ineffective management.

Waiting for a change

How this political crisis will be resolved, nobody seems to know. Government supporters say the crisis needs to be endured. Maduro is not going to give up power and call a presidential election, although, in his opinion, it is possible to hold elections to the National Assembly.

Through the mechanism of the Constitutional Assembly (established in 2017, the body to develop a new constitution), consultations with the people on the possibility of holding parliamentary elections have already been launched. Usually it’s just meeting people in the regions of Caracas and the province. Participants in such discussions are often recipients of social assistance from the state. The Venezuelan government does not name a timeline when consultations will end, although they promise that this will happen soon.

The opposition is also in no hurry. Parliament is working on the formation of a new National Electoral Commission. Its representatives are planning to hold presidential elections within a year after Maduro leaves the presidency. How to achieve this, they cannot say for sure, and they also intend to tolerate: to wait until the head of state leaves his post as a result of domestic and international pressure.

Hope for the world

Supporters of both the government and the opposition claim that they do not expect a force scenario. Maduro's opponents tried to resort to similar actions in 2017, but it all ended in futile clashes, deaths and arrests of protesters. Another tactic has been chosen: to try to convince the population of the country and the international community of the legitimacy of their actions.

War against Maduro. Why is an invasion of Venezuela unlikely

This calculation is partly justified. Some countries, including the United States, have already recognized Guaido as the current president, and on February 12, the opposition managed to hold a rally of thousands of people. The exact number of its participants is difficult to determine, but the eight-lane avenue of Francisco de Miranda 1.5 - 2 km was filled with people.

The dark horse in this situation is humanitarian aid, which is initiated by the opposition in the town of Cucuta on the territory of Colombia near the border with Venezuela. February 23, as announced by Guaydo, an attempt will be made to deliver this assistance to the country. If the army tries to interfere, it can lead to an armed clash that could explode the situation.

However, so far none of the tough scenarios that were talked about in Caracas in recent days has come true. On February 12, the opposition did not go to the Miraflores Palace, and the government forces did not attempt to occupy the building of the National Assembly. Opposition supporters themselves in private conversations recognize that Maduro is unlikely to aggravate, because this will give rise to interference from the United States or Colombia.

"Kaleidoscope" forces

The division of the political forces of Venezuela into government and opposition is to some extent arbitrary. Both sides do not represent a single force. In 2016, 11 parties and two independent deputies were elected to the Venezuelan parliament as part of the opposition "Block of Democratic Unity". By the number of mandates, the party of Juan Guaydo "Narodnaya Volya" is in third place (14 out of 167 mandates), behind the parties "Justice First" (33 places) and "New Time" (18 places).

The situation with the ideological definition of government opponents is difficult. Party "New time" and "Narodnaya Volya" adhere to the social-democratic ideas and are members of the Socialist International. The United Socialist Party, headed by Maduro, adheres to the ideas of socialism. In Venezuela, not right and left, but different views on socialism are fighting for power.

The lines of the political split in Venezuela are sometimes quite intricate. A member of the National Assembly of Delso Solorzano, ardently opposing Maduro, claims that her sister died four years ago because there were no necessary drugs in the country due to the economic crisis, and it was impossible to get them from abroad. Her father at the same time remained a supporter of Maduro. They have not spoken to each other for several years.

In search of a leader

Due to the fragmentation of the opposition in its ranks there is no unity regarding the leader. Popular on social networks in Venezuela, opposition activist Eric del Buffalo explains that government opponents recognize Juan Guaydo because he was able to re-launch the protest movement after a lull in 2018, but his fate will depend on the development of events. Many do not see Guaydo as a candidate for the presidential elections planned by the opposition, suggesting that his political “father” and leader of the “Narodnaya Volya” Leopoldo Lopez, who is now under house arrest, will appear in this capacity.

The opposition in Venezuela clusters around Guaydo, but retains different views on the situation.

Other possible candidates include former Miranda Governor Enrique Capriles Radonsky, representing the Justice First Party (Miranda State is the second most populous region in development in Venezuela), and former Chavist Henri Falcon, who lost Maduro in last year’s election.

The transition of the Chavista to the opposition is not unusual for Venezuela. Sometimes even former ministers of Chávez criticize the president, and in private conversations - employees of the current authorities. Supporters of Chavism speak about possible candidates, who believe that Maduro could not adequately continue the work of his predecessor as president.

The names of the current governor of the state of Miranda, Hector Rodriguez, and the chairman of the Constitutional Assembly Diosdado Cabello are most often mentioned. Hector Rodriguez is supported by supporters of the liberalization of Chavism, Cabello - those who support the strengthening of the socialist direction. Representatives of both groups are united by ideas about the need to restore order in management and the fight against corruption.

OPEN LETTER TO THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES

If I know anything, it’s about people, because just like you, I am a man of the people. I was

born and raised in a poor neighborhood in Caracas. I was forged in the heat of social and

union struggles in a Venezuela subjected to exclusion and inequality. I’m not a tycoon; I am a

worker who relies on reason and heart, and today I have the great privilege of leading the

new Venezuela rooted in a model of inclusive development and social equality built by

President Hugo Chávez since 1998 and inspired by the Bolivarian legacy.

We are living in historic times. These are days that will define the future of our countries

between war and peace. Those who represent you in Washington want to bring to our borders

the same hate they sowed in Vietnam. They want to invade and intervene Venezuela – as they

said then and are saying now – in the name of democracy and freedom. The story of a

usurpation of power in Venezuela is as false as that of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It

is a sham that could have dramatic consequences for the entire region.

Venezuela is a country that through its Constitution of 1999 has widely expanded participatory

and protagonist democracy of the people, and which in an unprecedented manner is today

one of the countries with the most electoral processes in the past 20 years. You may not like

our ideology or appearance, but we exist and we are millions.

I say this to the people of the United States of America to warn them of the serious and

dangerous intent that factions in the White House have for invading Venezuela, which would

have unforeseeable consequences for my nation and for all of the Americas. President Donald

Trump also intends to disrupt the noble initiatives for dialogue spurred by Uruguay and

Mexico, with the support of CARICOM, for a peaceful and dialogued solution that benefits

Venezuela. We know that for the good of Venezuela we have to sit down and talk; refusing

dialogue is to choose the path of force. Let us keep un mind the words of John F. Kennedy:

“Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate.” Are those who do not

want dialogue afraid of the truth?

Political intolerance toward the Venezuelan Bolivarian model and the hunger for immense oil

and mineral resources, as well as other great riches, has pushed an international coalition led

by the U.S. government towards committing the major folly of attacking Venezuela militarily

under the false of excuse of a non-existent humanitarian crisis.

The people of Venezuela have suffered and felt pain at the social wounds caused by a

criminal trade and financial blockade, which has been aggravated by the plundering and theft

of our financial resources and assets in countries aligned with this demented onslaught.

Nevertheless, thanks to our innovative system of social welfare, we proudly continue to be a

country with high human development index and the lowest inequality in the Americas.

The people of the United States should know that this complex, multi-form aggression is being

carried out with total impunity and in flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter, which

expressly forbids the threat or use of force, among other principles and resolutions in the

pursuit of peace and relations of friendship amongst nations.

We want to continue to be trading partners with the people of the United States, as we have

been throughout our history. Your politicians in Washington, however, are willing to send your

sons and daughters to die in an absurd war, rather than respecting the sacred right of the

Venezuelan people to self-determination and the safeguarding of their sovereignty.

As you, the people of the United States, we Venezuelans are patriots. And we will defend

what is ours with every part of our soul. Today, Venezuela is united with one single outcry: we

demand an end to the aggression that seeks to suffocate our economy and social strangle our

people, as well as an end to the grave and dangerous threats of military intervention against

Venezuela. We appeal to the good souls of U.S. society, which is also a victim of its rulers, so

you can join our call for peace. Let us be a single people against warmongering and war.

Long live the peoples of the Americas!

Nicolás Maduro

President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

RESPONSE TO COMRADES FROM RCWP

The Novosibirsk Regional Committee of the RCWP (Russian Communist Workers Party) in its statement “WHAT WOULD COMRADE STALIN SAY?” announced its withdrawal from the initiative group on the installation of the monument to I.V. Stalin in the territory of the city of Novosibirsk, motivating it with the fact that “it is impossible to erect a monument in the territory of those who forbade it to be placed in a public space”.

In this regard, I consider it necessary to make some explanations, especially since among our supporters not everyone correctly understands the decision taken by the initiative group to erect a monument in the territory of the CPRF regional committee and around this decision dirty political speculations begin.

The initiative group, including its leader, the author of these lines, from the very beginning of our campaign, advocated the installation of the monument to I.V. Stalin in the historically significant part of the city or near the objects of military glory.

Also, none of us had any illusions about the Communist Party Regional Committee (CPRF) and its first secretary A.E.Loktya, who, as the results of the struggle showed, pursued a compromise policy of consensus with the liberals. Therefore, the mayor’s office of the city of Novosibirsk is under the personal signature of the mayor, A.E. Loktya refused to agree on the monument to I.V. Stalin in public space.

What to do in this current political situation? Comrades from the CPRF do not give an answer to this question. They offer solutions that are devoid of common sense. For example, in their one more previous statement, they proposed “to postpone the monument until the revolution” ...

Seriously? Stalin’s bust, donated to the people, “put aside” at home or in the basement on Potaninskaya? And where to “postpone” a 2-ton granite pedestal? A rhetorical question. In essence, this is tantamount to the destruction of the monument to the Generalissimo. Frankly, nothing more wild and absurd can think of. We, representatives of the AUCPB, realize and feel our responsibility towards people and for the cause that we have been entrusted with and which we must complete.

That's all.

The declaration of withdrawal from the initiative group, adopted by the regional committee of the RCWP, is illogical. Fairly laying the entire responsibility for the situation on the local leadership of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the representatives of the RCWP decided for some reason to break the coalition with another Communist Party - the AUCPB ... Is the “obscene” world with the Communist Party of the Russian Federation opposed? We are also against it, but the interests of the cause for which we are fighting sometimes require it.

A revolution, Lenin would say, is not being done in “white gloves”. Shouldn't you get down to business? But in any serious case there is a risk.

Representatives of the RCWP are clearly inconsistent in their decisions. So, mentioning in his statement about the many questionable steps of the mayor A.E.Loktya, it was not said that the "red" city hall banned mass protest actions against pension reform at all central sites of the city, and at the same time, gave the green light to the CPRF. Accidentally forgotten? Representatives of the RCWP were the initiators of the creation of a coalition - under the auspices of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which carried out actions "for show" - in many ways, quite simply, it merged a wave of popular indignation "(from the statement of the Central Committee of the RCWP).

It should be noted that representatives of the RCWP continue to successfully work actively in this coalition hand in hand with the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and under its leadership as junior partners.

As we see, the local leadership of the RCWP rushes from one extreme to another, from the arms of opportunists and compromisers into the arms of a revolutionary phrase.

At a meeting of the City Council's artistic council in November 2018, when Mr. Lozhkin read out the refusal to approve the installation of the monument to Stalin, those present at the meeting Rudnitsky, Golodyaev and Co. gave him an ovation. Is it not clear that if you accept the proposal of the EIF, the liberals will applaud even louder? Who? .. After all, they sought and are trying to ensure that a monument to Stalin does not appear at all.

Most of all makes a fuss (“it’s better to bury the monument in the ground”, etc.) one of the local leaders of the EIF, who out of more than a hundred pickets to raise funds, took part in only one and paid only 300 rubles, demanding the only number out of a thousand donated funds, return them back. It is necessary to remind this figure: the right to criticize is necessary.

The RCF proposal, in essence, is a setup. In fact, during the campaign we collected about half a million rubles, and people will ask a reasonable question: where is the monument, and where is the money? What to answer? ..

When last year Mr. Lozhkin proposed Efremovsky Square (backyards in the Leninsky District), the local leaders of the RCWP urged us to immediately agree. We did not hurry and sought the center of the city. And if they immediately agreed, would they agree? I do not think. And actually, why is horseradish sweeter rarer?

The devil is not so terrible as he is painted. The territory of the CPRF regional committee has a number of indisputable advantages. The Communist Party of the Russian Federation has assumed obligations for the improvement of the site, which will require more than one hundred thousand rubles. Around the territory will be installed around the clock video surveillance. In the case of acts of vandalism, the risk of which should not be underestimated, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation will restore the monument at its own expense.

We have never ruled out the option of a private territory. The question is not in the territory of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation or not, but in the fact that the monument to Generalissimo I.V. Stalin has no place in a private courtyard. The statement of the RCWP “rrr-revolutionary” states that “if the installation of the monument helps the opportunists hide their real face, then it is not needed and even harmful.” Probably, they will hide it, but not to hide the truth for a long time.

The goal of our campaign was initially not to expose the Communist Party's conciliation, they did this work for themselves, and in the first place we had - the struggle for the good name of the leader, perpetuating his memory, enlightening our young people, bringing the historical truth to people.

Installation of a monument to the leader of the Soviet state, the architect of socialism, the creator of the Great Victory I.V. Stalin, even in the territory of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, will undoubtedly have a serious agitation and propaganda influence on the masses and especially on the young people who are now stupefied. So the game is worth the candle.

What would Stalin say? I think he would say that we are doing the right thing. We must look at things with simple eyes. We, the Bolsheviks, are not going to get up in the “beautiful” position of pure hurray revolutionaries, disclaiming all responsibility for the fate of the monument to I.V. Stalin. But to do our duty to the people.

APPEAL about the perpetuation of the memory of I.V. Stalin in the capital, the hero-city of Minsk and other cities of Belarus to the 140th anniversary of his birth

President of the Republic of Belarus

                        A.G. Lukashenko

 APPEAL

from left-patriotic organizations of Belarus, which formed the Coordination Council "UNITY", the public of the Republic of Belarus

about perpetuating the memory of I.V. Stalin in the capital

the city-hero of Minsk and other cities of Belarus

on the 140th anniversary of his birth

 Dear Alexander Grigorovich!

This year, on December 21, 2019, will be the 140th anniversary of the birth of Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, an outstanding figure of the Soviet state, who made an enormous positive contribution to the fate of the people of Belarus, and will be 140 years old. All progressive humanity will celebrate this anniversary date, paying tribute to the memory of the greatest figure of the XX century.

I.V. Stalin was one of the organizers of the October Revolution of 1917 in the former bourgeois-landlord Russia, the day of which is justly a public holiday in the Republic of Belarus. Thanks to this event, the Belarusian people for the first time in their history acquired their own statehood. A hundred years ago (January 1, 1919) of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic, the People’s Commissar for Nationalities of the Soviet Government, I.V. Stalin.

Held on the initiative of I.V. Stalin's industrialization, collectivization and cultural revolution turned the BSSR into a developed agro-industrial state with a high national culture and science, with steady social progress.

The name of I.V. Stalin is inextricably linked with the most important event in the history of the Belarusian people - the reunification of Western Belarus with the BSSR.

The leadership of I.V. Stalin by the party and the state during the Hitler invasion was one of the decisive factors of the Victory of the Soviet people, including the people of Belarus, in the Great Patriotic War against Nazi Germany. This Great Victory saved the Belarusian people from fascist enslavement and destruction, allowed to restore the Belarusian statehood.

In the postwar period, I.V. Stalin mobilized the resources of a huge country for the comprehensive assistance to the Belarusian people in the restoration and development of the national economy, culture and social sphere of the republic.

Thanks to the initiative of I.V. Stalin, the BSSR became a member of the UN.

According to the personal order of I.V. Stalin, such industrial giants were built in the republic in the post-war period, such as the Minsk Tractor and Minsk Automobile Plants, as well as other enterprises that currently form the foundation of the Belarusian economy.

At the direction of Joseph Stalin, fraternal assistance was rendered to the entire Soviet people in restoring the capital of the republic of Minsk, which was raised from the ruins and then turned into one of the best capital cities in Europe.

To date, all malicious insinuations aimed at demonizing the personality of I.V. Stalin and the discrediting of his activities, the objective research of conscientious scientists exposed, including the myth of the so-called. "Stalinist repression".

Progressive people of Belarus on a full basis have long demanded the just restoration of the name of I.V. Stalin as an outstanding figure of the twentieth century. Currently, the popularity of the personality of I.V. Stalin is growing not only in the territory of the former USSR, but throughout the world, as evidenced by the presence of the name of Stalin in the toponymy of many countries.

More recently, on December 1, 2018, in the city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur in Union Russia, the busts of I.V. were installed in a solemn atmosphere. Stalin and the Marshals of Victory. Unfortunately, Belarus, including the metropolitan administration, despite repeated appeals to it, act on this issue against the global trend.

In our appeal to the address of the Minsk City Executive Committee and the Ministry of Culture, it was emphasized: “With the restoration of the monument to I.V. Stalin in the capital of the Republic of Belarus, the hero-city of Minsk, will end the lies of anti-Stalinism, the truth will triumph, the violation of which has caused tremendous damage to all Soviet people, including citizens of the Republic of Belarus. ”

In connection with the approach of the 140th anniversary of the birth of the outstanding figure of the twentieth century, the leader and organizer of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War, which played an extremely positive role in the fate of the Belarusian people, we appeal to you, Alexander Grigorievich, and as President, and as a professional historian with the following suggestions:

- to hold state events dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of I.V. Stalin;

- to lay a monument to Generalissimo I.V. To Stalin in the capital of the Republic of Belarus on one of the avenues or on one of the squares of the hero-city of Minsk, giving them a name in honor of I.V. Stalin;

- replace the name “Volgograd” on the pedestal of the gallery of the hero-cities at the Victory Monument on Victory Square in the city of Minsk with the word “Stalingrad”, as it has long been done in Moscow at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier near the Kremlin wall;

- create a museum of I.V. Stalin in the city-hero of Minsk as a branch of the State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, and in the museum itself set a monument to Generalissimo I.V. Stalin in full growth;

- oblige the leaders of the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex to install a bust of I.V. Stalin on a pedestal, as it was before;

- oblige regional executive committees of the Republic of Belarus to reflect the name of I.V. Stalin in the toponymy of large cities.

We are confident that these measures will find a benevolent response from the majority of citizens of the republic, will contribute to uprooting the germs of Nazism cultivated by the enemies of the republic in order to destroy our Belarus, as they are destroying Ukraine today, and will make a significant contribution to the patriotic education of young people.

By order of the participants, laying flowers to the bust of I.V. Stalin at the ECC "Line Stalin" text was signed by the leaders of the left-patriotic organizations of Belarus, which formed the Coordinating Council "UNITY":

Minsk, 12/21/2018

Monument to I.V. Stalin will be open by May 9

The initiative group of citizens of Novosibirsk again addressed the city administration with a statement on the approval of the installation of the monument to I.V. Stalin. This time it was proposed to install a monument on the street. Bolshevik, 29, in the territory of the Communist Party regional committee.

The initiative group includes representatives of the All-Union Communist Party Bolsheviks (AUCPB) and a number of other socio-political organizations.

On the website of the City Hall yesterday, on February 7, a notice of public hearings and a draft of the monument to I.V. Stalin - https://novo-sibirsk.ru/upload/iblock/865/stalin.pdf Public discussions will take place from February 12 to March 4, after which the question will be submitted to the council of the city hall.

In the project of installation of the monument to  I.V. Stalin made significant improvements. It is planned to equip the area around the monument, build a brick wall with columns, on the central section to the left and right of the bust will be placed granite slabs, one of which is carved with the words of I.V. Stalin on the historical mission of the Soviet people in the defeat of fascism and the salvation of civilization, on the other - the words from the poem of the Georgian poet "Answer Yevgeny Yevtushenko" -

The three-meter-high monument is a red granite stele with a bust of I.V.  Stalin, depicted in the marshal's jacket with the Star of the Hero of Socialist Labor. The All-India Anti-Imperialist Forum strongly condemns the infamous imperialist move aimed at overthrowing the democratically elected President of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, from power

Manik Mukherjee, vice president of the All India Anti-Imperialist Forum (AIAIF), made the following statement:

The All-India Anti-Imperialist Forum (AIAIF) strongly condemns the US initiative aimed at overthrowing President Nicholas Maduro from power and, thus, the implementation of a coup in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The United States and its supporters, the opposition forces, are constantly spreading the lie that President Maduro is a dictator, usurper and illegitimate. However, President Maduro was elected by the people of Venezuela last May by an overwhelming majority, and the elections were supervised and monitored by more than 150 international groups that considered elections free, fair, transparent, peaceful and democratic. With typical imperialist arrogance, the United States declared right-wing opposition leader Juan Guaydo a "legitimate president" who was not even a candidate in the last presidential election. This is tantamount to gross unlawful interference with the sovereignty of another country in the name of democracy in order to get rid of recalcitrant governments. The United States has a notorious history of installing puppet regimes in recalcitrant states under the pernicious slogan of “regime change” and support for reactionary right-wing dictatorships if they follow the line sponsored by the United States. They are trying to follow the same tactic in Venezuela. Since the time of Hugo Chávez, they have conspired to destabilize the people's government in Venezuela. They played an important role in the destruction of the Venezuelan economy, imposing completely unfair and illegal economic sanctions, and now intend to openly intervene to achieve a regime change. Such interventions have nothing to do with democracy, but the only goal is to strengthen US hegemony and tyranny.

The so-called “pro-democratic mass movement,” as the Western media portrayed, is organized from the outside, feeding the disaffected elements trained by the US rulers. These forces have long been working in Venezuela, causing the economy to fall due to the manipulation of money and oil prices from the outside and inside; and by reorienting supplies of food and medicine from delivery to supermarkets and transferring them as contraband to Colombia, where they are sold in inflated local currencies with dollar manipulation.

Guaido declared himself the temporary head of state on January 23, 2019. Having no legal basis for this, he nakedly trampled on democratic rights with the full support of the American imperialists and their lackeys. He called on the army to rebel against the democratically elected President Maduro. However, the army did not recognize him as the president of Venezuela and supports President Maduro. Guaydo announced his plans to overthrow all the social security measures of previous governments, carry out mass privatization and pursue neoliberal capitalist policies.

All progressive-minded people from different backgrounds are protesting against the abominable course of the coup d'état by the American rulers, led by Donald Trump, who is trying to fight and seize Venezuela!

AIAIF calls on the peoples of all countries not to be deceived by the false propaganda of the United States and to protest against the manipulation of the US imperialists and firmly support the Venezuelan masses fighting to defend their sovereignty.

“Unite and raise your voice throughout the world against the US imperialist conspiracy to overthrow the elected government of Venezuela!”

“Unite and raise your voice throughout the world against the US imperialist conspiracy to overthrow the elected government of Venezuela!”

Said Khalequzzaman, General Secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB), January 29 at a rally and demonstration against US aggression against Venezuela held in the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The SPB General Secretary called on the peoples of the whole world, including Bangladesh, to resist the aggression of the American imperialists and their supporters against the sovereign and popularly elected government of Venezuela.

“US imperialism, driven by its own greed, put the whole world on the brink of war. They kill heads of state / governments of many countries, seize control of oil and other resources of countries such as Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, and destroy their political freedom and sovereignty by direct military invasion. It was when the imperialists were driven from many regions back to their country, when Trump himself was under threat, when Latin American immigrants gathered at the border of his country, the USA, he began a conspiracy to overthrow the democratic and elected government (Nicolas Maduro) of Venezuela - one of Latin American countries producing oil. Previously, several attempts were made to overthrow Nicolas Maduro with the help of imperialist forces. American imperialism seeks to establish its sovereignty over Latin America. It seeks to gain control over the oil resources of Venezuela, "said the Hlydetstsaman.

“The so-called “global democratic forces” of the United States, Britain, Canada and the EU offer their support to the undeleted Guiaido to overthrow the democratically elected government of Maduro. They require re-election within 8 days. In our opinion, who will remain in power, who will remain outside it - everything depends exclusively on the people of this state. The intervention of another country is clearly a violation of international laws and can be considered as an intrusion into the internal affairs of a foreign state. ”

The protesters demanded that the US imperialists and their employees not participate in the internal affairs of Venezuela. They also warned that the consequences of any attempt at an external military invasion would not be very pleasant for the United States. Finally, they urged the government of Bangladesh to express its disgrace to the United States on this issue and called upon the peoples of the world, including the people of Bangladesh, to oppose this heinous act.

For an independent Venezuela!

On February 2, 2019 in Moscow at the meeting-meeting of solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and its legitimate president Nicolas Maduro Moros, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the Russian Federation Carlos Rafael Faria Tortosa spoke. At the rally meeting in the crowded room, he read out appeals in support of the Bolivarian Revolution - including our appeal, which was written by the Kuibyshev organization of the AUCPB.

***

Across the world, solidarity continues with the independent Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, its people and its president, Nicolas Maduro Moros. Workers from the Basque Country, Italy, Cuba, Canada, Nepal, Palestine, the DPR, Russia, the Philippines and Scotland joined the international anti-imperialist action. Communists from many countries oppose the US economic and political attack on Venezuela, against bourgeois groups led by the American puppet of Guaydo.

We stand in solidarity with the Bolivarian Revolution of Venezuela!
We stand in the same line of fighters for peace and the independence of Venezuela!
We demand that all governments of the world stop American aggression in Latin America!
We appeal to the principles underlying the UN - to respect the national sovereignty of Venezuela, just like any other country!

We know that the imperialist powers will not voluntarily fulfill these demands, since it is not profitable for them. This is primarily the United States, for them national sovereignty is an empty sound when it comes to seizing new spheres of influence. President Hugo Chavez encroached on private property, he nationalized many industries and commerce, and the capitalists would never forgive him for this. Donald Trump, his government, the Senate and the US Congress express precisely the interests of corporations that have lost their profits after nationalization. The essence of these interests - to seize the economy of Venezuela! They want to do the same with Cuba. They have been doing the same with Russia since 1991. The goal of economic wars is the world domination of transnational corporations, which are now based in the USA.

We call the people of Venezuela, its government and the president - remember Chile! The socialism of Salvador Allende fell in battle against the troops of General Pinochet, because Allende was indecisive. He did not dare to destroy the old order, the old authorities, the old laws and order - and then the old order attacked him. Many new Pinochets are already waiting for orders from Washington. The United States is already directly affecting Brazil and Colombia. If President Maduro does as President Allende, the Bolivarian Revolution will fall.

We appeal to the president of Venezuela - Down with the bourgeois parliament! It must immediately be dissolved, arbitrarily arrested and publicly tried for high treason! Only revolutionary determination will save the independence of Venezuela. Now the government, the army, hundreds of thousands of people are on the side of the Revolution. The will and determination of everyone is important! The time has come to turn the Bolivarian revolution into a socialist revolution!

Now or never!

Solidarity with the anti-imperialist struggle of the Venezuelan people

On January 29, 2019, a delegation of leaders of public associations that formed the Coordination Council of the Left-Patriotic Forces of Belarus “Unity” visited the embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on behalf of the Belarusian public to express solidarity with the people of Venezuela and their legitimate government headed by President Nicolas Maduro, who were forced to give repulse of the beginning of the open "hybrid" aggression of imperialism in the face of the United States of America and their satellites from Europe and Latin America.

The delegation members met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, José Boggiano, during which the following message was sent to him:

EMBASSY

BOLIVARIAN REPUBLIC OF VENEZUELA

IN THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

Dear comrades!

Public associations that formed the Coordination Council of the Left-Patriotic Forces of Belarus "Unity" declare to the people and the constitutional leadership of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela their full support for their struggle against the start of the "hybrid" aggression of the United States of America with the participation of its satellites in Latin America, Europe and "fifth column" in the country.

We are confident that the people of Venezuela and its Bolivarian government, headed by the legitimate President Nicolas Maduro, with the support of freedom-loving peoples and independent states, will give a decisive rebuff to the onslaught of internal and external reaction, ensure peace in the country and further social progress.

We assure you that the left-patriotic organizations of Belarus (which is also the object of imperialist expansion) express unwavering solidarity with the national liberation struggle of the Venezuelan people and welcome the established mutually beneficial relations of our states, helping the Venezuelan people and their state to get rid of the dominance of the global financial oligarchy, to defend their sovereignty, completely get rid of the colonial heritage and achieve an increase in the material and spiritual well-being of the people and based on social justice.

The leaders of public associations that formed the Coordination Council of the Left-Patriotic Forces of Belarus "Unity":

V.V. Draco, Chairman of the Republican

council of public association

and justice "

On the same day, the delegation sent the following message to the US Embassy in the Republic of Belarus:

TO THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED

STATES OF AMERICA

IN THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

Public associations that formed the Coordination Council of the Left-Patriotic Forces of Belarus "Unity", declare to the US government a strong protest against the new "hybrid" aggression that has begun this time against the Venezuelan people and its sovereign state.

Not to hide the fact that the illegal self-proclamation of the alternative president of Venezuela, a protege of the US leadership, is a gross violation of the country's constitution and serves to incite a fratricidal civil war in Venezuela in order to create an excuse for the aggressor to seize the Venezuelan people’s oil and other riches back to colonial slavery.

We are confident that the times of unpunished colonial robbery on the Planet have passed and the next aggression of American imperialism, no matter how it was supported by the satellites in Europe and Latin America, will receive due rebuff from the Venezuelan people and its legitimate government headed by President Nicolas Madura freedom-loving nations and peace-loving states.

We demand that the USA stop interfering in the internal affairs of the sovereign Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela!

 Signatures are the same.

Overview of the labor movement in the first half of January 2019

New protests against pension reform held in Russia

On January 3, 2019, in many cities of the country pickets were held, at which people demanded that the recently approved law be lifted, which increased the age of access to well-deserved rest. The actions were attended by workers, students, intellectuals, the unemployed, retirees.

Protesters in Moscow drew attention to the fact that the authorities have money for the luxurious festive decoration of the capital, but they do not have it for retirement.

Pickets were also held in Leningrad, Novosibirsk, Gorky (Nizhny Novgorod), Tomsk, Sverdlovsk, Rostov, Irkutsk, Ulyanovsk, Barnaul, Stalingrad (Volgograd), Ufa, Omsk, Kirov, Kemerovo, Kazan, Astrakhan, Saratov, Izhevsk, Yaroslavl, Zhelefor, Zhelekorov, Zaporozhye , Krasnodar, Tolyatti, Kaluga, Novorossiysk, Vologda, Bryansk, Sevastopol and other major cities.

Agricultural workers also joined the actions. In particular, representatives of the village of Malaya Shilna (Tataria) expressed their dissatisfaction with the pension reform.

Residents of Komi protest against the head of the region

On January 6, protests were organized in the Komi republic. During the pickets, the participants spoke in favor of the resignation of the head of the Komi Republic. One of the main slogans of these events: “Putin, take Gaplikov back!” Neither frost at minus 25 degrees, nor pressure from the policemen prevented the picketers from going even to the Syktyvkar-Kortkeros-Ust-Kul highway. The protests gathered signatures for the resignation of the official.

The purpose of the events was to draw attention to the situation when Putin, by force and cunning, imposes his henchmen on the regions, who have nothing to do with the land where they sit on the kingdom. Gaplikov is an official born in Kyrgyzstan. He had nothing to do with Komi before the appointment.

A similar situation exists in neighboring Udmurtia, when a certain Brechalov, a native of Adygea, an absolute stranger who had never been to the republic before, was imposed by Putin.

Ordinary people end up suffering from such incompetent and in many ways senseless appointments, as visiting "governors" do not care about the territories entrusted to them.

Protest in Vladimir region

On January 8, a rally was held in Strunino, which gathered more than a hundred people, among whom were workers, as well as pensioners and the unemployed. People went outside with posters, where it was written: “Save the hospital for the people”, “No medical assistance is provided in the renovated departments”,

The protesters recalled that before  Aleksandrovskaya CRH had joined the  Struninsky hospital in early 2012, everything was relatively normal in the city. Now, in Strunino, the dermatological, neuropsychiatric, therapeutic, and ophthalmology departments are under the threat of closure, which people oppose. Protesters insist that a new clinic be built in the city.

At a rally, the government was reproached for not meeting with the people.

There was no one from the health department of the Vladimir region, or from the city or district administration.
------------------------------------------------

In Barnaul, activists opposed the greed of churchmen

On January 8, a picket was organized in the capital of the Altai Territory. Its participants protested against transferring the premises of the Barnaul Planetarium to the property of the church.

The picket was held near the building of the local diocesan administration. The organizers of the rally noticed that it was also received in due time by the priests from the city administration.

The speakers stated that it was not only the fact of the transfer of the premises, but the costs associated with it. Presumably, about 50 million rubles will be required for the construction of a new building.

“Can these funds, nevertheless, be spent on children and children to leave the planetarium?”, The picketers wondered.

Activists also handed out leaflets explaining the situation around the Barnaul Planetarium and condemning the greed of clergy and government officials to citizens.

Nationwide strike in India

On January 8, at the call of the trade unions in this densely populated country, a large-scale two-day workers' strike began. It was attended by about 200 million people who disagree with the socio-economic policy of the authorities.

The strikers put forward slogans demanding higher minimum wages and pensions in various industries, improving social conditions, creating vacancies for unemployed youth. Protesters accused the government of refusing to protect the interests of the proletarians.

According to the strikers, the government has lost the confidence of the people and continues its aggressive policy towards the workers, not noticing that people lack livelihoods. The protesters also opposed the proposed amendments to the law on trade unions, since the changes would cause great damage to their functioning. Peasant communities through their associations, as well as associations of teachers and students supported the strike.

In a number of regions of the country, protesters blocked the railways and highways. In the states of West Bengal and Kerala clashes with police occurred.
---------------------------------

France hosted the first in 2019  "yellow vests" protest action

On January 5, rallies and marches against the policies of the president and the government were again organized in the country.

Mass actions in which workers participated, representatives of the petty bourgeoisie, were held in Toulouse, Lyon, Bordeaux, Grenoble, Lille and other cities of France. In Rene, Nantes and Rouen, demonstrations ended in clashes with the police. Tear gas was used against activists in Beauvais to keep about 600 demonstrators in "yellow vests" out of the city.

In Paris, an action took place on the Champs Elysées, where all the demonstrations had taken place before. In addition, protesters marched from the city hall to the National Assembly. Participants in the rally on the Champs Elysées turned to the France-Press agency building located on Birzhevaya Square to express disagreement with how the protest is covered in the media. Demonstrators shouted, “Collaboration journalists!”

In total, at least 70 thousand people took part in the demonstrations of the "yellow vests" on January 5.

In Hungary, a series of protests against the “law on slavery” continue

Trade unions, together with opposition parties, continue a series of rallies against plans to increase the number of overtime hours allowed per year from 250 to 400. On January 5, more than 10,000 workers, intellectuals, and other sections of the population went to protest in Budapest, demanding the repeal of the “slavery law” .

The chairman of the trade union of metallurgists, Z. Muksu, stated that if the government did not reconsider these plans, a slogan calling for a general strike would be put forward.

Strike in Germany

On January 10, the three major airports in the country, located in the Bonn, Düsseldorf and Stuttgart areas, began a strike by employees responsible for the safety of passenger and freight transport.

The strikers insisted on the introduction of a unified federal tariff scale, implying a payment of 20 euros per hour. Before the strike, this figure varied depending on the region of the country and the nature of the activity.

The aggression against Venezuela must stop: Cuba

MNA – Cuba has strongly condemned the attempt to impose through a coup a puppet government at the service of the US in Venezuela and expressed its unwavering solidarity with the Government of the constitutional president Nicolás Maduro.

The true objectives of the actions against Venezuela are to control the vast resources of that sister nation and destroy the value of its example, as an emancipatory process and as a defense of the dignity and independence of Our America, reads a statement released by Cuba in reaction to the recent developments in Venezuela and the US unlawful and overt intervention in the country’s domestic affairs.

As President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez said “the sovereignty of our peoples is resolved today in the attitude towards Venezuela. To support the legitimate right of the sister nation to define its destiny is to defend the dignity of all.”

Other attempts should not be forgotten, such as the military coup of 2002 and the oil coup of 2003, the aggressive Executive Order of the United States that qualifies Venezuela as “an unusual and extraordinary threat to national security and foreign policy” of the superpower, the unilateral coercive measures, the call to a military coup against the constitutional Government of Venezuela, the warning of the President of the United States to use “a possible military option” and the attempted assassination on August 4 against President Maduro.

The acts of a group of countries and the shameful role of the OAS constitute a new and desperate attempt to implement an unsuccessful policy of regime change, which has not been imposed due to the unwavering resistance of the Venezuelan people and their willingness to defend the National sovereignty, the statement concludes.

Raul Castro: May the Cuban Revolution Live on Forever!

Raul Castro Ruz, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, delivered the key speech in the commemoration ceremony held in Santa Ifigenia Cemetery in Santiago de Cuba to mark the 60th anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, on January 1st

SANTIAGO women and men;

Compatriots of all Cuba:

We gather today to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the revolutionary triumph of January 1st, and we do so again in Santiago de Cuba, cradle of the Revolution, here in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery, where the immortal remains of many of the best children of the nation are venerated, very close to the tombs of the National Hero, of the Father and Mother of the Homeland, and of the Comandante en Jefe of the Cuban Revolution.

I do not come here to speak in a personal capacity; I do so in the name of the heroic sacrifices of our people, and of the thousands of fighters who gave their lives over more than 150 years of struggle.

It seems incredible that destiny has reserved us the privilege of being able to address our compatriots on a day like today, commemorating six decades of triumph, an occasion on which, under Fidel’s command, the Cuban people attained political power for the first time, and the Mambises were able to enter Santiago de Cuba victorious, coincidentally 60 years after the establishment of absolute U.S. imperialist domination of Cuba.

A few months ago, in La Demajagua, we gathered to remember the 150th anniversary of the beginning of Cuba’s independence wars, October 10, 1868; a date that marks the beginning of our Revolution, which survived moments of bitterness and disunity, like the Pact of Zanjón, and brilliant episodes like that carried out by Antonio Maceo in the Baraguá Protest.

The Revolution was revived, in 1895, thanks to the genius and ability of Martí to bring together the best and most experienced leaders of the Ten Years’ War, and prepare the “Necessary War” against Spanish colonialism.

When the colonial army was practically defeated, with little combative morale, besieged by the Mambises across almost all of the island and depleted by tropical diseases which, in 1897, to mention just one example, caused 201,000 losses among its troops; the victory was usurped by the U.S. intervention and the military occupation of the country, which gave way to a long period of oppression and corrupt governments, subservient to its hegemonic designs.

Not even in these difficult circumstances was the redemptive fire of the Cuban people extinguished, manifested in figures of the stature of Baliño, Mella, Villena, Guiteras and Jesús Menéndez, among many others who did not resign themselves to living in dishonor and ignominy.

Nor was the Centenary Generation, which under the leadership of Fidel assaulted the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks on July 26, 1953, willing to tolerate, 100 years after Martí’s birth, the crimes and abuses of a bloody tyranny, completely subordinated to the interests of the United States.

Moments of profound pain and sadness ensued, after the setback and the vile assassination of many of the revolutionary fighters participating in these actions, powerfully denounced by Fidel in his historic defence “History will absolve me,” which became the program of the Revolution. A few meters from here lay the remains of the fallen on that July 26, and other martyrs of the insurrectional feat, including also the brave young Santiago people of the clandestine struggle, and the children of this city who fell in glorious internationalist missions.

In the hard years of imprisonment and ill-treatment, the fervor and commitment to recommence the struggle did not falter; the prestige and authority of the revolutionary leader grew to join new forces against the dictatorship.

There was no rest during exile in Mexico; it served to prepare the next and decisive stage of battle that brought us on the Granma yacht to Las Coloradas on December 2, 1956. The delay in arriving to Cuban coasts, due to the hazardous voyage, prevented the scheduled synchronization with the Uprising of Santiago de Cuba, on November 30, organized by the bold and courageous young leader of the July 26 Movement, Frank País García, who had not yet turned 22, his age when brutally murdered by the henchmen of the tyranny, July 30, 1957.

Neither could the disaster of Alegría de Pío, which almost annihilated the expeditionaries, extinguish Fidel’s optimism and faith in victory, convictions that led him to exclaim on December 18 when we were reunited, with just seven rifles: Now we have won the war!

From Santiago de Cuba, as a result of the tireless efforts of the clandestine movement led by Frank País, we received in the Sierra Maestra the first reinforcement of young combatants, weapons and ammunition, which was a crucial contribution to the fighting capacity of the nascent Rebel Army.

Months of incessant fighting ensued, first in the Sierra Maestra, and then the struggle spread to other regions with the opening of new fronts and columns, and with the defeat of the great offensive of the Batista troops against the First Front led by Fidel, which marked the beginning of the strategic counter-offensive and the radical turning point of the war that led to the defeat of the regime and the seizure of revolutionary power.

Already on January 8, 1959, upon his arrival in Havana, the Commander of the Revolution expressed, (I quote): “The tyranny has been overthrown, the joy is immense and yet there is still much to be done. We do not fool ourselves into believing that from now on everything will be easy, perhaps from now on everything will be more difficult.” (End of quote).

It did not take long for Fidel’s premonitory words to become a reality. A stage of struggle began that shook the foundations of Cuban society. On May 17, just four and a half months after the triumph, in the Comandancia de la Plata, in the heart of the Sierra Maestra, the first Agrarian Reform Law was promulgated in compliance with the Moncada Program, an event that upset the powerful economic interests of U.S. monopolies and the Creole bourgeoisie, which redoubled the conspiracies against the revolutionary process.

The nascent Revolution was subjected to all types of aggressions and threats, such as the actions of armed gangs financed by the U.S. government; assassination plans against Fidel and other leaders; the murder of young literacy teachers, many of them still adolescents; sabotage and terrorism throughout the country with the terrible toll of 3,478 dead and 2,099 disabled; the economic, commercial and financial blockade, and other political and diplomatic measures in order to isolate us; the campaigns of lies to defame the Revolution and its leaders; the mercenary invasion at Playa Girón in April 1961; the October Crisis in 1962, when the military invasion of Cuba was being prepared in the United States; and an endless list of hostile acts against our homeland.

No one can deny that the Revolution that was born that January 1st, has not had a minute’s calm over 60 years. We have seen twelve U.S. administrations that have not ceased in the effort to force a regime change in Cuba, one way or another, with varying degrees of aggressiveness.

The heroic people of yesterday and today, proud of their national history and culture, committed to the ideals and the work of the Revolution, which four generations of Cubans have already joined, have managed to resist and win over the six decades of uninterrupted struggle in defense of socialism, always based on the closest unity around the Party and Fidel.

Only thus can we understand the feat of having withstood the tough years of the Special Period, when we were left alone in the middle of the West, 90 miles from the United States. Then, nobody in the world would have bet a penny on the survival of the Revolution. However, the challenge was endured and overcome without violating a single one of the ethical and humanist principles of the revolutionary process, and was worthy of the invaluable support of the solidarity movements that never stopped believing in Cuba.

Now once again, the U.S. government seems to be taking the course of confrontation with Cuba, and presenting our peaceful and solidary country as a threat to the region. It resorts to the sinister Monroe Doctrine to try to roll back history to the shameful era in which subjugated governments and military dictatorships joined it in isolating Cuba.

Increasingly, senior officials of the current administration, with the complicity of certain lackeys, disseminate new falsehoods and again try to blame Cuba for all the ills of the region, as if these were not the result of ruthless neoliberal policies that cause poverty, hunger, inequality, organized crime, drug trafficking, political corruption, abuse and deprivation of workers’ rights, displaced people, the eviction of campesinos, the repression of students, and precarious health, education and housing conditions for the vast majority.

They are the same who declare the intention to continue forcing the deterioration of bilateral relations, and promote new measures of economic, commercial and financial blockade to restrict the performance of the national economy, cause additional constraints on the consumption and welfare of the people, hinder even further foreign trade, and curb the flow of foreign investment. They say they are willing to challenge International Law, to contravene the rules of international trade and economic relations, and aggressively apply extraterritorial measures and laws against the sovereignty of other states.

I reiterate our willingness to coexist in a civilized manner, despite the differences, in a relationship of peace, respect and mutual benefit with the United States. We have also clearly indicated that Cubans are prepared to resist a confrontational scenario, which we do not want, and we hope that the levelest heads in the U.S. government can avoid.

Cuba is accused again, when it has been demonstrated that external debt, uncontrolled migratory flows, the plundering of natural resources, are the result of the domination of transnational corporations in the continent.

The force of truth has thwarted the lies, and history has put the events and protagonists in their places.

All that can be attributed to the Cuban Revolution and the epic written by this heroic people is the responsibility that emanates from their example, as a symbol of full independence, victorious resistance, social justice, altruismand internationalism.

As part of Our America, our respect and solidarity with sister nations has, and will be, invariable; in which more than 347,700 Cuban doctors and health workers have offered their services, many of them in remote and difficult places, and more than 27,200 young people have been professionally trained. This shows confidence in Cuba.

A few weeks ago, thousands of Cuban doctors who offered their services in Brazil returned, with dignity, with the recognition and affection of millions of patients, especially from rural areas and indigenous populations, whom the new President slandered and condemned, in order to destroy that social program and with it fulfill the directions of the extreme right in Florida, which has hijacked United States policy toward Cuba, to the pleasure of the most reactionary forces of the current U.S. government.

Sixty years after the triumph, we can affirm that we have seen it all before; we are not intimidated by the language of force or threats, they did not intimidate us when the revolutionary process was not yet consolidated, they will not even remotely achieve it now that the unity of the people is an indestructible reality; because if yesterday we were few, today we are an entire people defending their Revolution (Applause).

On July 26, here in Santiago, I explained that an adverse scenario had formed, and again the euphoria of our enemies had resurfaced, and the haste to materialize their dreams of destroying the example of Cuba. I also pointed out the conviction that the imperialist blockade of Venezuela, Nicaragua and our country was tightening. Events have confirmed that assessment.

After almost a decade of practicing unconventional warfare to prevent the continuity, or impede the return of progressive governments, Washington power circles sponsored coups – first a military coup to overthrow President Zelaya in Honduras, and later they resorted to parliamentary-judicial coups against Lugo in Paraguay, and Dilma Rousseff in Brazil.

They promoted rigged and politically motivated judicial proceedings, as well as campaigns of manipulation and discredit against leftist leaders and organizations, making use of monopoly control over mass media.

In this way, they succeeded in imprisoning compañero Lula da Silva, and deprived him of the right to be the Workers’ Party presidential candidate, to avoid his certain victory in the recent elections. I take this opportunity to appeal to all the honest political forces of the planet to demand his release, and an end to the attacks and judicial persecution against former presidents Dilma Rousseff, and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner.

Those who entertained the illusion of the restoration of imperialist domination in our region should understand that Latin America and the Caribbean have changed, and so has the world.

For our part, we will continue to actively contribute to the processes of consensus and integration in the region, based on the concept of unity in diversity.

We have contributed to the peace process in Colombia, at the express request of its government, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, and the National Liberation Army, and we will continue to do so, above all risks, grievances and difficulties.

The political and moral authority of Cuba is based on the history, conduct and united, conscious and organized support of the people.

Therefore, no threat will make us withdraw our solidarity with the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The aggressive actions against this sister nation must cease. As we warned some time ago, the repeated declaration of Venezuela as a threat to the national security of the United States, the open calls for a military coup against its constitutional government, the military training exercises undertaken in the vicinity of Venezuelan borders, as well as tensions and incidents in the area, can only lead to serious instability and unpredictable consequences.

The region resembles a large prairie in times of drought. A single spark could cause an uncontrollable fire that would damage the national interests of all.

It is equally dangerous and unacceptable that the United States government unilaterally sanctions and also proclaims the Republic of Nicaragua a threat to its national security. We reject the attempts of the discredited OAS, Organization of American States, to interfere in the affairs of this sister nation.

Faced with the Monroe Doctrine, the principles of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, signed in Havana by Heads of State and Government, which some allies of the United States now seek to disregard, must be applied and defended, for the good of all.

The greatest lesson that revolutionaries and progressive movements can draw from the situation that has shaped is that of never neglecting unity with the people, and not desisting in the struggle in defense of the interests of the oppressed, however difficult the circumstances.

For us, in the complex international situation, the words of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution remain entirely valid, on presenting his central report to the First Party Congress, in 1975, when he said: “As long as there is imperialism, the Party, the State and the people, will pay maximum attention to defense services. The revolutionary guard will never be neglected. History teaches all too eloquently that those who forget this principle do not survive the mistake.” (End of quote).

Correspondingly, we will continue to prioritize defense training tasks, at all levels, in the interests of safeguarding independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and peace, based on the strategic concept of the War of the Entire People, as is reflected in the recently approved Constitution of the Republic.

It is our duty to meticulously prepare ourselves for all scenarios in advance, including the worst, not only on the military level; so that we leave no room for the bewilderment and improvisation that flourishes in those with scarce will when the time to act arrives, but with the optimism and confidence in victory that Fidel bequeathed to us, and in close contact with the people, we can find the best solution to any challenge that may arise.

Specifically, one challenge that we will face in the year that begins today is the economic situation, hard-pressed by the external finance strains, due to the losses of export revenues, and the tightening of the U.S. blockade and its extraterritorial effects.

As expressed by our Minister of Economy and Planning at the last session of the National Assembly, the cost to Cuba of this arbitrary measure, calculated according to internationally approved methodology, amounted to 4.321 billion dollars last year, equivalent to almost 12 million in damages every day, a fact that is overlooked by analysts who tend to question national economic performance.

Regardless of the blockade and its reinforcement, we Cubans have enormous internal reserves to exploit, without increasing the external debt. For this it is necessary, in the first place, to reduce all non-essential expenses and save more; increase and diversify exports; raise the efficiency of the investment process and enhance the participation of foreign investment, which, as stated in the guiding Party documents, is not a complement, but a fundamental element for development.

In that same scenario, in the National Assembly on December 22, the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, compañero Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, took stock of the state of the economy during 2018, and the plan for this year, where he stressed that the economic battle remains the fundamental and the most complex task, and added that it is that which today demands the most from all of us, because it is the task most anticipated by our people.

With this purpose, he explained that a more proactive, intelligent and concrete attitude is required of leaders, promoting – not hindering or delaying – reliable and specific solutions to problems, with the continuous and intense search for flexible and efficient responses. At the same time, he called for more coherence with the Conceptualization of the Economic and Social Model, and to be more systematic and precise in the implementation of the Economic and Social Policy Guidelines of the Party and the Revolution.

It is opportune to state that the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba firmly supports the pronouncements and actions undertaken by compañero Díaz-Canel since he took office at the helm of the state and the government, including his work system, based on visits to territories and communities; the link with collectives and direct exchanges with the people; the promotion of the accountability of leaders through the press and on social media; as well as the systematic control of the main development programs and the promotion of a collective leadership and management style in state and government bodies.

Without wishing to make a hasty assessment, I can say that the process of transferring the main responsibilities to new generations is going well. I’d go further – it’s going very well, without setbacks or surprises, and we are confident that thus we will continue. (Applause)

Those of us young people who then had the privilege of fighting under Fidel’s command, more than 65 years ago, from the Moncada, the Granma, the Rebel Army, the clandestine struggle, Girón, the confrontation with counterrevolutionary gangs, the internationalist missions and up to the present, together with the heroic Cuban people, are deeply satisfied, happy and confident to see, with our own eyes, how the new generations assume the mission of continuing the construction of socialism, the only guarantee of national independence and sovereignty.

It is 60 years since January 1, 1959. However, the Revolution has not aged, it is still young, and this is not merely rhetoric, it is historic confirmation, since from the very first moments its protagonists were young people, and this has been the case throughout these first six decades.

The revolutionary process is not circumscribed to the biological lifetime of those who initiated it, but to the will and commitment of the young people who ensure its continuity. The new generations have the duty to ensure that the Cuban Revolution is forever a Revolution of young people, and at the same time, a Socialist Revolution of the humble, by the humble, and for the humble. (Applause)

On this significant date, the fitting tribute to Cuban women can not be absent, from Mariana to today, always present in our struggles for the emancipation of the homeland and in the construction of the society we are building today. (Applause)

Compañeras and compañeros:

The Second Ordinary Session of the current legislature of the National Assembly of People’s Power approved the new Constitution of the Republic, which will be submitted to a referendum February 24.

Previously, for a period of almost three months, a broad popular consultation process was undertaken, in which citizens freely expressed their opinions on the content of the draft, leading to the modification of 60% of the articles, in a clear demonstration of the profoundly democratic nature of the Revolution, where the major decisions that define the life of the nation are devised with the contribution of all Cubans. Our media provided detailed coverage of the process, which frees me from elaborating on the subject. In a few days, a tabloid of the definitive text of the new Constitution will begin to be distributed.

I only wish to add the confidence that once again our noble and courageous people will demonstrate at the polls on February 24, the majority support for their Revolution and Socialism, ratifying the Constitution in the year in which we commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first Magna Carta of Cuba, approved in Guáimaro by the initiators of the war for independence.

After 60 years of struggle, sacrifices, efforts and victories, we see a free, independent country, the master of its own destiny. On imagining tomorrow, the work done allows us to glimpse a dignified and prosperous future for the Homeland.

Bearing in mind Cubans’ heroic history of struggle, on behalf of our people, with total optimism and confidence in the future, I can exclaim:

May the Cuban Revolution live on forever!

Thank you.

(Ovation)
